WELCOME

This is the online home of the Indian Formation Research Society. The Society is a voluntary and independent gathering of South Asian and Third World research scholars. It serves to bring together scholars committed to objective studies of various pro-people issues, from a range of disciplinary and regional contexts.

The purpose of the Society is to help initiate the construction of lasting intellectual forums for serious cross-discipline discussion of issues of importance to social movements. The Society and its various forums and programmes are open to scholars from all human and physical research disciplines.

The limited aim of the Society is to assist the production and promotion of scientific studies that might be of use to social movements, should those involved with such struggles wish to use such studies. In this respect, the Society does not attempt to speak on behalf of any particular movement.

The Society is organised democratically, with regular steering committee meetings. The organising secretaries are Kumar Sanjay Singh and Simon Chilvers. A full list of steering committee members is available here.

The Society is a financially independent organisation, being funded by modest fees levied to participate in its various forums. The Society does not accept any NGO, state or political party funds.
